Ho ho ho! It’s that time of the year again. Trustco’s Christmas tradition each year is to look outwardly into the local community and give charitable donations to those organisations that work selflessly to support our local Sussex community.

It used to be the norm to send cards and gifts to customers and partners. Trustco forgoes this tradition as part of our social values: We believe that money is better used towards good causes, rather than consumer goods and items that might ultimately end up in landfill, and we know our customers and suppliers feel the same!

As proud Brighton and Hove locals, and in the top 20 fastest growing companies in the South of England (which, we do sometimes like to mention), it’s important to us to literally put our money where our mouths are and support the community in which we live and work, and this is another opportunity where we can promote and support some of the independent charities in our area.

This year, we handpicked two local charities to donate to. These were based on the passions of Trustco’s employees, and both provide support to people who are struggling due to the cost of living crisis. We would like to take a moment to promote the good work of these organisations:

The Les Alden Foundation (The Worthing Food Foundation).

The Worthing Food Foundation was set up in the Covid-19 pandemic as a volunteer-run community foodbank to support local people in need and to ensure that no one in the local community would go hungry. The cost of living crisis and rising food prices means more people need our help than ever before. We now support 1,000 people every month with weekly supplies of fresh and tinned food, baby, pet and hygiene products. Last year we distributed the equivalent of 120,000 meals – that’s one for every resident in Worthing.

Sussex Pet Rescue.

The Sussex Pet Rescue Charitable Trust was founded about 50 years ago, becoming a registered charity in 1995. Our aim has always been to help animals across Sussex, and we do so now by supporting a range of small animal charities across the county. This year we’re helping two charities who assist people struggling with vet costs (this is done through vet referrals), we’re paying for a storage unit for a wildlife charity, helping towards the cost of a new kennel block for a rescue centre, and contributing towards the vet bills for a small animal rescue.
